With Thanksgiving right around the corner (next week, what?!) my attention has turned to my own holiday table. Over at Heather Taylor Home we have debuted our Holiday table linens and I am looking to the beautiful lookbook pictures that photographer Jeana Sohn and stylist Mar Peidro created for inspiration. Specifically, I love the idea of layering our Hearth and Soho tablecloths as seen in the above pics. That was Mar’s idea and it was so good! Loving the gorgeous hand-rolled beeswax candles from Hollyflora too.

A Beautiful Airbnb in Echo Park

People are always asking me for recommendations on places to stay when visiting LA and I struggle to come up with something that is equal parts charming central and affordable. So I’m extremely excited to share that my friends Beatrice Valenzuela and Ramsey Conder have designed a new home in Echo Park, which they are making available for short and long-term rental on Airbnb. The space is gorgeous with all the little details that make Bea’s style special and inviting (including Bea’s weavings, Ramsey’s hooks, Moroccan Tile, Mexican pottery and loads of Heather Taylor Home pillows). Floral Crowns with Hollyflora

Around this time last year I spent an afternoon with my sister and Hollyflora making floral crowns as part of a project for the debut issue of Nourished Journal. Holly and Becky brought over buckets spring blooms, including lilacs, peonies and clematis, along with all the necessary materials (floral wire, floral tape, ribbons). The story ran in Nourished but I thought I would share a longer version here, along with the tutorial. It is lilac season, after all. Photography by Jeana Sohn.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Take three or four floral wires and bundle them together. Adhere them together using brown floral tape. Make sure to wrap the tape around the wires tightly.

2. At each end, make loops out of the wire and tape. Secure the hoops with more tape. This provides an easy way to attach ribbons for adjustable sizing.

3. At this point, your foundation is complete. Take the crown and gently shape it to the size of your head.

4. Now it’s time to decorate. Pick your flowers and foliage and start layering on. Use 2” pieces of wire to attach lighter leaves and stems.

5. Once you have completed the base layer of decoration, use a hot glue gun to attach any heavy or delicate blooms.

6. Finish by threading ribbon through end loops. Tie it onto your head as a headband or crown.

HTH Summer

With summer just around the corner, I’m extremely excited about all the new Heather Taylor Home products we’ve been cooking up. We’ve got our new 100% cotton, super cozy scarves which many ladies are using to bundle up their babes (see pic, very cute). I will be bringing the new red/white/blue style on my trip to Hawaii next week (perfect impromptu beach cover up). Speaking of babies, we have debuted an actual baby blanket in gender neutral shades. And lastly, we have new runners in one of our favorite color combos, white/gold/gray. Rachel Craven Studio Visit 2.0

I recently paid a visit to my friend Rachel Craven to see her new studio in downtown LA. And what an inspiring workspace I stumbled into, brimming with art books (Laura Owens front and center), healthy greenery and a bouquet of orange ranunculus. Bright and airy, the space perfectly suits Rachel’s aesthetic – layers of of cool white and golden light. Make sure to check out her new collection of gorgeous table linens. And save the date for the Spring 2014 Echo Park Craft Fair (an event Rachel organizes, alongside Beatrice Valenzuela), which falls on the weekend of May 10-11.
