I’m always on the lookout for workday lunches that are healthy and easy yet totally delicious. When my friend Gaby told me about her new favorite lunch – chickpeas and kale cooked with garam masala – I knew it would be a winner. Hope you enjoy my latest webisode, inspired by the beautiful Gabrielle Calvocoressi.

Spiced Chickpeas and Kale
Serves 2

1 tbs of coconut oil
1 tsp of garam masala
1 can of chickpeas, rinsed, drained and patted dry
1 bunch of kale
extra virgin olive oil
salt
pepper
½ lemon, juice
feta cheese

Heat coconut oil in a sauté pan over medium heat. Add garam masala and let it sizzle.

Add chickpeas to the pan, coat with the garam masala-saturated oil and sprinkle with salt. Sauté until lightly golden.

Meanwhile, wash the kale and remove the leaves from the tough stalks. Roughly chop and add to the pan. Combine the kale and chickpeas and add a swirl of olive oil, a bit more salt and pepper. Cook until the greens start to wilt and turn a more vivid shade of green. Finish with lemon juice and top with feta cheese.*

*if packing for lunch to-go, let the mixture cool before adding the feta or pack them separately

For my final Look TV webisode, I hit the flea market with Joanna Williams of textile studio Kneeland Co. Sourcing special pieces from markets all around the world is what Joanna does for a living, so I thought it apt to call on her for suggestions on how to sort through the mayhem. Joanna kindly joined me for a morning at the Rose Bowl Flea Market in August where we loaded up on dresses and baskets and had an exciting and hilarious run-in with our fave designer Isabel Marant. Check out the video for some really great tips and put them to use this Sunday at the Rose Bowl (second sunday of the month)!

I can chart my adult life by the different  perfumes I have worn and I love how getting a whiff of one can transport me back to a specific moment. This happened a few weeks ago. My friend Pansy was wearing Narcisco Rodriguez For Her and I was instantly back in New York in my early twenties. I could recall those feelings with total clarity – kinda lonely and kinda wild, listening to Joan Baez on the subway on my brand spanking new iPod, which felt like the coolest object in the world. The power of scent!

And ever since visiting Coqui Coqui, the spa-meets-perfumerie-meets-boutique hotel located in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, all I can think about is Orange Blossom. Last year, my husband Alex and I honeymooned in this part of the world, specifically in the oceanside town of Tulum, where, along with enjoying sand and sea, I had an unexpected perfume epiphany. This happened at Coqui Coqui, of course, where I couldn’t get enough of the locally-inspired scents. Realizing that I had stumbled upon something great, I stocked up on candles, bath oils and eau de toilette, in scents ranging from Coco-Coco (coconut) to Agave to Menli (Mint & Lime). This is also where I discovered Coqui Coqui’s Orange Blossom Eau de Cologne. With one spritz, it’s summer again and I’m back in Tulum.

For my lastest webisode, I thought we would explore the art of perfume at Le Labo, one of my favorite small batch perfume companies. The brand is inspiring for many reasons, including their gorgeous boutiques located in cosmopolitan cities such as LA, Paris and Tokyo. But what really makes Le Labo unique is how they make the perfume. On the spot. In front of each customer. It’s very cool. And their Fleur d’Oranger 27 is my new signature scent.
