Gabriela Artigas at Taylor De Cordoba

When I opened Taylor De Cordoba in 2006 I knew I wanted push the traditional idea of a white cube gallery. And for my first couple of years in business, I didn’t really know what that meant. Then in 2008 I met the model-turned-fashion designer Jesse Kamm, who asked if she could have her 2008 Spring/Summer presentation at the gallery. We had a blast and I realized how much I loved rallying behind LA’s young fashion designers the same way I love rallying behind the city’s artists. Next came Melissa Coker in 2009 followed soon after by Clare Vivier. And last week, we welcomed Gabriela Artigas (remember her studio visit?) into the gallery for an intimate soiree celebrating her Spring 2013 collection. Artfully arranged on dark gray pedestals, the collection looked gorgeous against a backdrop of gold walls and Frohawk Two Feathers paintings. One guest remarked that it felt like a gallery opening in Mexico. I’m not sure what that means but I like it!
