Looking at Art

Along with the eating, the art viewing was the most exciting part of my recent New York trip. Highlights were “Demons, Yarns & Tales: Tapestries by Contemporary Artists” at James Cohan Gallery. Loved this Kara Walker piece.

Had a major moment of happiness at Cheim & Read, looking at some of my favorite photographs by Diane Arbus and William Eggleston. This Christmas Tree picture by Arbus makes me crazy.

And finally, “Primary Atmospheres: Works from California 1960-1970,” at David Zwirner felt more like an expertly curated museum show than anything else. Incredible and important minimalism from my home state. LOVE.
