A Movable Feast

What day is it? This week has been a whirlwind and it’s about to get even crazier. Oh right, it’s thursday, which means I’m hopping on a red eye to host an Eating Our Words event in Miami. Y’all remember Eating Our Words, the reading series we host at the gallery, where we pair writers with culinary artists? I am incredibly grateful to report that we have been invited to participate in O, Miami, a brilliant poetry festival directed by P. Scott Cunningham, which kicks off in 24 hours. We’ve asked Tracy K. Smith to read at the family-owned Cuban restaurant Boater’s Grill. It’s on a lagoon and we’re roasting a pig. I can’t think of a cozier way to spend my weekend.

Since I last wrote about the series here, Gaby and I have hosted three very different events, the last one featuring acclaimed middle east scholar and cultural commentator Reza Aslan and Dirul-Islam Shamsid-Deen of Earl’s Gourmet Grub.

It was an amazing evening – poignant and all too timely as the very next morning, we woke to the news that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak had resigned.

While our last event was intense, our next LA event is all about the fun. Mark your calendars for April 21, folks, as we’ve got the amazing hollywood historian Sam Wasson, author of Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the Dawn of the Modern Woman, who will read from his not-yet-released biography of Bob Fosse.

And one of my favorite LA ladies, Lauren Soloff of The Granola Project, will be at the gallery debuting a new spring/summer granola flavor. I’m hoping for another magical evening.
