Hello Sweet Butter
There’s a food trend happening right now that I’m a bit obsessed with. Ready? Ok. Cafe/Marketplaces a la my beloved Joan’s on Third are popping up everywhere. Just in the past few months I have written about three. There’s Marta Teegan’s tiny and fabulous Cookbook in Echo Park and Thierry Perez’s French-inspired cafe/market/wine tasting room L’Epicerie in Culver City. And as of yesterday, Sweet Butter opened in Sherman Oaks.
Sweet Butter stands on it’s own for several reasons. Firstly, this is the longtime dream of veteran LA caterer Leslie Danelian. I have eaten Leslie’s food at numerous events over the years and it’s so darn good. Her homemade lime tortilla chips might just be the end of me. Secondly, and I know I overuse the word, but this place is very cozy. The old-fashioned decor, the friendly staff, the homey food – Leslie wanted it to feel like an extension of your grandmother’s kitchen and it does. AND down the road, Leslie will be teaching cooking classes in the space, which I just know will be fantastic.
