Weekend Inspiration: Descanso Gardens
I recently visited Descanso Gardens for the first time and had my mind blown. This 160-acre garden is in La Cañada Flintridge, which is a mere 20 minutes outside of LA by car. And as someone born and bred here I’m not sure how I missed this one. But that’s one of my favorite things about this city – there is always something new and extraordinary to discover.
Back to Descanso. Jeana Sohn told me that I was “literally going to die” when I saw the hundreds of camellia trees in bloom. We spent an afternoon strolling through the property and “freaking out” (Jeana’s words) over the lilacs. This has to me one of the most magical experiences in LA at this exact moment, with the camellias at their peak. But I imagine it’s also insane when the roses are blooming. This would be a great place to come with friends and a couple bottles of rosé for a late afternoon picnic. Or as Jeana reminded me, it’s a perfect place to bring your kid and take a tram ride through the gardens.
And if you’re in LA this weekend, a Summerland pop up farmers market at Heath Ceramics seems like a lovely way to spend a Saturday…
