"Conscientious Consumption: Sustainability and the Future of Luxury"
Last night, I went to an interesting conversation at the Hammer, moderated by Vogue‘s Sally Singer. The topic was “Conscientious Consumption: Sustainability and the Future of Luxury” and Singer selected four leading LA-based designers to join her for the discussion: jewelry designer Tom Binns (a favorite of Mrs. Obama); the “Godfather of Denim” and Goldsign designer, Adriano Goldschmied; Dosa founder and designer, Christina Kim; and Kate Mulleavy, one of the design duo behind Rodarte. Each designer presented a slideshow of their oeuvre and attempted to address how their luxury goods fit in with the current economic and environmental crises. Very interesting stuff indeed but I would have liked to hear more about Vogue‘s relationship to this conundrum.
