Yummy Clare
Oh hello. How are you? Would you like a crocheted cafe au lait this morning? Or to put it plainly, do you know the work of Clare Crespo? My friend Lady Vivier actually introduced me to Ms. Crespo several months ago and I’ve been hooked (hahaha! crochet reference, what’s up!) ever since.
She writes cookbooks for kids including Hey There, Cupcake!
and The Secret Life of Food and has the most hilarious and adorable “Yummyfun Kooking” video spots on her website. She’s also one of the masterminds behind Treat Street, a traveling bake sale here in LA. Anyway, the point of my story is this: on Saturday evening we went to an exhibition of Clare’s crocheted food at Heath Ceramics . It was a full blown Mardi Gras spread – oysters, catfish po boys, beignets – made entirely of yarn and served in beautiful Heath dishes.
The work is on display through Feb. 21 and I encourage everyone to check it out. In the meantime, here’s a little article about Clare on the T Magazine blog from a while back where she shares her favorite LA spots.
